Koloa Kauai Coffee Rum comes from the Koloa Rum Company in Kalaheo, on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The rum starts as a raw cane sugar mash. It is distilled in a vintage 1,210-gallon copper pot still powered by steam. Filtered water from Mount Waialeale brings it down to strength.

The coffee is local, too. Koloa makes this flavored rum under a licence with Kauai Coffee Company, the largest coffee farm in the islands. Dark-roasted Kauai Coffee is blended with Koloa White Rum and Hawaiian cane sugar. It is bottled at 34% ABV (68 proof), so it drinks soft and round.

Open the bottle and roasted coffee fills the air, with a sweet cane sugar note. The palate leads with robust espresso. Cane sugar sweetness balances it, and chocolate and vanilla follow. The finish brings more chocolate and espresso, plus a light touch of vanilla.
