Description

Kirk and Sweeney XO is a limited release from the Dominican Republic. It is handcrafted in Santiago de los Caballeros and aged in American oak barrels. The rum goes into the bottle at barrel strength, 65.5% ABV, so it is rich and full of flavor.

The bottle is a showpiece. It is a handmade crystal decanter with a crystal stopper and gold lettering. It comes in a mahogany-style box inspired by an old captain's reserve cigar box.

Pour a glass and you'll smell dried fruit, raisin and oak, with caramel, vanilla and warm spice. On the palate, toasted oak and vanilla meet raisin, a sherry-like note and sweet dried fruit. Caramel and baking spice fill in the middle. The finish is long, warm and robust, with oak, dried fruit and spice that stay with you.

Because it is so strong, try adding a little water to coax out more flavor. You can also build a rich Old Fashioned with it. It pairs nicely with dark chocolate, aged or creamy cheese, grilled meats or a cigar.
