Description

Jura 10 Year Old is a single malt from the Isle of Jura, a wild, lightly populated island off Scotland's west coast. The distillery was founded in 1810. The old distillery closed in 1901 and sat quiet for decades. It came back to life in the early 1960s and has made the single malts you know today since 1963. Even the bottle tells a story. Jura says its shape was first made to survive rough trips from the island.

The spirit runs through exceptionally tall stills. It then spends 10 years in American white oak barrels that once held bourbon. Those casks give it vanilla and soft sweetness. Last comes a finishing spell in aged Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain. The sherry adds a richer, darker layer. Its color ends up a warm copper gold. It is bottled at 40% ABV.

Raise the glass and vanilla and orange greet you first. Cracked black pepper and dark chocolate sit just behind them. On the palate it turns juicy, with ripe nectarine and a little ginger. Coffee and toasted almonds come through next. The whole thing feels sweet and smooth, with a creamy vanilla side. A soft wisp of smoke closes it out.

Wine Enthusiast scored Jura 10 Year Old 93 points in 2025. It joined the core range in 2018, when it took over from Jura Origin. Fans like how easy it is to enjoy without losing character. It is the bottle many people reach for when they first try Jura. It also earns its place as an everyday dram for seasoned drinkers.

Try it neat first. A few drops of water or one large ice cube can bring out more fruit. It also works well in a Rob Roy or a Whisky Sour. At the table, this Scotch loves dark chocolate, roasted almonds and aged Gouda. Smoked salmon, grilled lamb or a good steak are fine matches too. Each one picks up its sweet, nutty side. Chocolate in particular brings out the orange and coffee notes.

This is a friendly single malt if you like rounded whisky with a little spice. It also makes a gentle first step into the world of Scotch whisky. The smoke here is only a light touch. If you want a big, peaty Islay malt, pick something bolder. But if you enjoy sweet fruit, dark chocolate and a little spice, this one is easy to love.
