Description

Junípero Gin comes from San Francisco, and it helped start American craft gin. In 1993 Fritz Maytag of Anchor Brewing set up a tiny copper pot still on Potrero Hill. The recipe was set in 1996. The same team made Old Potrero, called the first American craft whiskey after Prohibition.

Twelve botanicals go in, including juniper, coriander, cubeb, grains of paradise and citrus peels. Orris, cassia, cardamom, aniseed and angelica finish the list. It is bottled unfiltered at 98.6 proof.

Juniper leads the nose, crisp and clean, with bright citrus and herbs. The palate feels big and firm. The finish brings lemon peel, cardamom and lemongrass.

The 2022 San Francisco World Spirits Competition gave it a Gold medal.

Stir it into a Martini or Negroni, or pour it with tonic. Bold gin fans will love it.
