This bourbon is truly one-of-a-kind because its barrels are aged on ships that travel across the world, making the process highly distinctive. Each release is part of a "Very Small Batch Straight Bourbon Whiskey" series and is designated with a unique "Voyage" number, reflecting the subtle variations that occur depending on the journey. As the ships move across the seas, the whiskey is constantly churned, increasing its interaction with the oak barrels.
The barrels encounter diverse climates, from scorching equatorial heat to chilly temperatures, which accelerates the aging process and results in a richer, darker color. The heat and humidity caramelize the sugars in the whiskey, creating an edgy sweetness, while exposure to salty ocean air and sea spray adds a briny, savory character and hints of sea salt on the finish. Typically bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV), though some releases come in Cask Strength, this bourbon features tasting notes of crème brûlée, sweet tobacco, caramel, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and subtle espresso or butterscotch.
Its flavor is long and smooth, often leaving a lingering salty or Cracker Jack–like finish. Inspired by Master Blender Trey Zoeller in 2008, these voyages may cross the equator multiple times and visit over 25 ports across five continents, making it a premium, experimental bourbon worth savoring.
