Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea is a bourbon that grows up on the water. Its barrels ride aboard ships that stop at ports all over the globe. On average, one voyage calls at more than 25 ports on five continents. It also crosses the equator twice. Each release carries a Voyage number, since no two trips are the same.

Founder Trey Zoeller came up with the idea in 2008, on a boat off the coast of Costa Rica. The rocking of the ship keeps the whiskey moving inside each barrel. That means more contact with the oak. Humid heat near the equator helps caramelize the spirit. Salty sea air leaves a briny mark. The bourbon starts out in Kentucky and is bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).

Jefferson's describes a nose of fresh ginger, butterscotch and salt spray. On the palate you will find salted caramel, chocolate and tropical fruit. The finish is delicate and closes with a touch of sea salt. Each voyage tastes a little different.

Judges keep giving it top marks. It earned Double Gold and 96 points at the 2026 New York International Spirits Competition. It also won Double Gold at the 2025 John Barleycorn Awards and Gold at the 2026 Ascot Awards.
