Jack Daniel’s Coy Hill Barrelhouse 8 is a limited Single Barrel Special Release from Lynchburg, Tennessee. Its barrels aged on the fifth and sixth floors of Barrelhouse 8. That spot on Coy Hill sits at the distillery’s highest elevations.

The whiskey starts with the classic Jack Daniel’s mash of 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye. It was charcoal mellowed and filled into new charred American white oak in September 2013. Every bottle comes from one barrel at full strength, between 122 and 137.5 proof.

Lift the glass and you get baking spices, cinnamon and clove. The palate is all caramel and vanilla, with candied fruit, rich toffee and molasses. It closes on charred oak and dark brown sugar.

Whisky Advocate scored it 95 points. Taste it neat, then try a little water to open it up. Pour it with grilled steak, smoked ribs or dark chocolate.
