Isaac Bowman Port Barrel Finished Bourbon comes from A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Virginia. It is a Virginia straight bourbon, first aged in charred white oak barrels. The team then moves it into port barrels for three to six months. Those barrels come from Virginia wineries and from Portugal. It is bottled at 92 proof.

Lift the glass and you'll find cherry and baked apple right away. Jammy fruit, vanilla, brown spice and toasted pecans follow close behind. The palate is bold and sweet, with jam and caramel over toasty oak. A gentle spice carries into a long, smooth finish.

The awards list is long for a bottle at this price. It took Gold at the 2019 World Whiskies Awards and the 2019 New York World Wine & Spirits Competition. That same year it was named Best of Category at the Los Angeles International Spirits Competition. In 2020 it added a Silver at San Francisco and Gold at the American Whiskey Masters.
