High West Double Rye Whiskey (750Ml)

Description

High West Double Rye blends two rye whiskeys from High West Distillery in Utah. The distillery describes it as bold rye spice with bright botanical notes. It is bottled at 92 proof, or 46% ABV.

The younger rye comes from MGP. It is made on a column still from 95% rye and 5% barley malt. The older rye is distilled by High West on a pot still. Its mash is 80% rye and 20% malted rye. Each one spends at least two years in oak. Together they show how lively a rye whiskey can be.

Lift the glass and you get mint, clove and allspice. Licorice root, pine nuts, dark chocolate and gin-like botanicals follow. The palate opens with bright rye spice. Then it turns herbal, with menthol, eucalyptus, lemon, ginger tea and wildflower honey. The finish starts with warm cinnamon candy and eases into gentle, spiced sweetness. A last hint of anise closes it out.

That herbal kick makes it a great cocktail whiskey. High West likes it in a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. The botanicals play well with bitters and a strip of orange peel. On busy nights, our ready-made cocktails are an easy backup.
