Herradura Silver is a blanco tequila made from 100% blue Weber agave. Casa Herradura has crafted tequila in Jalisco, Mexico since 1870. The distillery carries NOM 1119, and today the brand belongs to Brown-Forman. You may also see this style called plata or blanco.
What makes it different is time in wood. Most silver tequilas go straight to the bottle. This one rests for 45 days in barrels first, so Herradura calls it an extra-aged blanco. Difford's Guide notes the barrels are refill American whiskey casks. That short rest gives the spirit a soft straw color.
Raise the glass and you get herbal agave, warm wood and a hint of vanilla. The taste is mildly sweet, led by mellow roasted agave with a little oak. It finishes smooth, crisp and clean. The agave stays in front, and the wood just rounds the edges.
Herradura says this blanco has won 45 awards since 2006. That count includes 15 gold and double gold medals. It is bottled at 40% alcohol, or 80 proof, in a 750ml bottle.
You can sip it neat as a stand-alone tequila. It also makes a great base for cocktails. Try a classic Margarita, an easy Paloma or a tequila Mule. Fresh lime, light citrus dishes and seafood are natural partners at the table.
If you want a clean, agave-forward bottle with a little extra softness, keep this one close. It is a smart pick for anyone building a home bar around good tequila.
