Description

Hennessy Privilege VSOP has a story that starts in 1817. That year, the future King George IV of England asked the house for a "Very Superior Old Pale" cognac. It became the first notable blend of Jean Fillioux, Hennessy's original Master Blender. His family has refined the recipe for eight generations.

The blend brings together more than 60 eaux-de-vie. They come from the four premier crus of Cognac: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois. Together they give the cognac finesse, structure and a rich scent.

In the glass it glows a warm amber. The nose opens with sweet, fresh apricot and vanilla. Clove, cinnamon and a light toasted oak follow. On the palate, smooth vanilla meets mellow oak with a gentle hint of spice. The finish is smooth and long.

Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer in the army of Louis XV, founded the house in 1765. Its cognac first shipped to the United States in 1794.

Enjoy it neat, or let one ice cube chill your glass. It works well in a Sidecar, an Old Fashioned or a Horse's Neck with ginger ale. At the table, try it next to a square of dark chocolate or some aged cheese.
