Hennessy is a type of brandy called Cognac, which is made only in the Cognac region of France. It is produced and aged in Cognac, and the company was founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy. The spirit is mainly made from Ugni Blanc grapes grown in four top regions of Cognac, ensuring its high quality. The 750ml bottle usually comes as Hennessy V.S. (Very Special), the brand’s standard version, which is a blend of over 40 grape spirits, called eaux-de-vie, aged at least two years in French oak barrels. Both Hennessy V.S. and V.S.O.P. typically have 40% alcohol content (80 proof).
Hennessy has a bright golden to warm amber color, with aromas of toasted oak, vanilla, almonds, and fresh fruit. Its taste is rich and full, featuring hints of grilled almonds, fresh grapes, vanilla, and a touch of spice. Hennessy V.S. can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails like Hennessy Ginger.
As the world’s largest Cognac producer, Hennessy holds a significant share of the global market. It introduced well-known labels like V.S., V.S.O.P., and X.O., which are now industry standards. Today, Hennessy is part of Moët Hennessy under LVMH, and it is celebrated worldwide for its connection to luxury, celebrations, and even hip-hop culture, making it truly iconic.
