This premium Japanese single malt whisky is aged for at least 18 years, allowing its flavors to develop fully and gracefully. It is crafted at the Hakushu Distillery, located in Japan’s Southern Alps near Mt. Kaikomagatake, where the pure mountain water and cool, misty climate create the perfect environment for whisky-making. Often called the “Forest Distillery” because of its pristine natural surroundings, Hakushu produces a whisky that is fresh, crisp, and lightly smoky, with subtle herbal hints. Its color ranges from deep to bright gold, reflecting its rich and elegant character.
On the palate, it offers flavors of ripe pear, dried mint, oregano, and a gentle touch of smoke, along with complex notes of jasmine, mango, quince, and menthol. Unlike some heavily peated Scotch whiskies, this whisky is only lightly peated, providing a smooth and delicate smokiness. Highly praised by critics, it frequently wins top awards and is popular with collectors and whisky lovers due to its limited availability.
Made by Suntory, a founding company in Japanese whisky, it usually comes in a 750ml bottle (700ml in some regions). It is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water, following the traditional Mizuwari style, to fully appreciate its subtle and refined flavors.
