Groth Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted by Groth Vineyards & Winery, a family-owned winery founded in 1982. The grapes come mainly from the Oakville AVA in Napa Valley, California, a region known for producing some of the world’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is made mostly from Cabernet Sauvignon, with small portions of Merlot and Petit Verdot added for balance and complexity. For example, the 2022 vintage includes 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, bottled in the standard 750ml size.
Groth Cabernet is a bold, full-bodied red wine that reflects the classic Oakville style. It is aged for around 19 months in French oak barrels, about half of which are new, adding rich layers of flavor and depth. The grapes are harvested at night and hand-sorted to ensure the best quality and freshness.
In the glass, it shows a deep color with aromas of blackberry, currant, spice, vanilla, cocoa, and graphite. The palate is rich and smooth, with firm tannins and balanced acidity, making it ideal for aging. Groth is highly respected, earning top critic scores, including a historic 100-point rating for its 1985 Reserve. Enjoy it with grilled steak, roasted meats, or Bolognese pasta—now or after 10–15 years of cellaring.
