Grey Goose VX

Grey Goose is the French brand behind one of the best-known premium vodkas. In VX, short for Vodka Exceptionnelle, about 5% of the blend is cognac.

That cognac was made just for VX by Grey Goose cellar master François Thibault. The grapes come from the Grande Champagne cru, including a rare harvest from Le Logis, the Grey Goose home. The cognac rests for up to two years in old Limousin oak casks. It adds gentle, grape-driven depth while the vodka stays in front.

The nose is light and pretty. You'll find white fruit blossom, plum and apricot, with a little citrus and wild honey. On the palate it feels smooth and creamy, with orchard fruit and more honey. The finish is long and lingering.

Grey Goose suggests serving it on the rocks in a snifter. You can also chill it and sip it neat. If you mix it, keep to a simple, spirit-forward cocktail. It would be a shame to bury it under juice.

VX launched in 2014 in limited amounts and only in select markets. It comes in a heavy decanter of extra flint glass, shaped like a fine cognac bottle. That makes it a lovely gift for anyone who enjoys rare bottles.
