Description

Green River's story starts in 1885, when J.W. McCulloch founded the brand. Fire and Prohibition stopped production for decades. It came back in 2022 in Owensboro, Kentucky. The distillery holds license DSP-KY-10, the tenth oldest in the state.

This bourbon swaps rye for wheat. The mash is 70% Kentucky-grown corn, 21% wheat and 9% malted six-row barley. That recipe tames the sharp spice you find in rye-heavy bourbons. The result is soft and on the sweet side.

It pours golden amber at 90 proof. You'll smell peach and caramel, with apricot and cinnamon close behind. The palate brings toffee, pastry and hazelnut over a round, honeyed feel. It ends honeyed, smooth and balanced.

At the 2025 New York World Spirits Competition, it was named Best Overall Bourbon and Best in Class. A blind tasting panel in New York also gave it a Double Gold. It finished ahead of names like Weller in the wheated category. Fans praise it as a strong value too.

Sip it neat or build a classic Old Fashioned. Pecan pie, smoked brisket and roasted nuts all suit its sweet side.
