Description

Gran Coramino Cristalino is a reposado tequila that has been filtered until it runs clear. It comes from a partnership between comedian Kevin Hart and Juan Domingo Beckmann. Beckmann is an 11th-generation tequila maker, so this bottle has deep family roots behind it.

It starts with 100% blue Weber agave, hand-picked from the Beckmann family fields in Jalisco. The agave hearts are slow-roasted in stone ovens for up to 40 hours. The juice is then fermented and double-distilled in copper pot stills at La Rojeña Distillery in the town of Tequila.

Next comes the two-step aging. The spirit rests in Eastern European oak barrels. Then it finishes in first-fill Cabernet Sauvignon casks from Napa Valley. Finally it is slow-filtered to strip out the color while keeping the barrel flavor. The result is crystal clear with a platinum shine. It is bottled at 40% ABV, or 80 proof.

Pour a glass and you get vanilla bean right away, lifted by a bright citrus note. On the palate the wine casks show up as dark berries. Light spice keeps things lively, and the citrus base keeps it fresh. The finish is smooth and clean, with just a little spice at the end. The Beverage Testing Institute gave it a Silver Medal and 86 points in 2023.

Sip it neat or over one big cube to taste the berry side. It also makes a smooth Tequila Old Fashioned or an upgraded Margarita. Serve it with tacos, grilled meats or rich Mexican dishes.
