Description

Gosling's Family Reserve Old Rum comes from Bermuda's Gosling family, who have made rum on the island since 1806. It starts with the same Bermuda blend as their famous Black Seal. Then it rests for 16 to 19 years in once-used charred oak barrels. That long wait gives it a deep mahogany color and real complexity.

The story goes that this rum was once kept just for the family. Today each bottle is still hand-filled, hand-labeled and numbered. It's stopped with a cork and sealed in wax, the way the family did it in the early 1900s. The dark, champagne-style bottle recalls the days when their rum was sold in reused champagne bottles. Output is small, at about 21,000 bottles a year.

Your first sniff brings leather, dark chocolate and a hint of pepper. The palate is smooth and elegant, with traces of smoke, vanilla and cigar box. A long, spicy finish ties it all together. It's bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof).

The Caribbean Journal named it the #1 Aged Rum in the World. Treat it the way you would a fine Scotch or Cognac. Pour it neat or over one large cube. It's lovely with dark chocolate, a good cigar or a rich dessert.
