The Glenlivet 14 Year Old Cognac Cask Selection brings a French accent to a Speyside classic. The Glenlivet first matures this single malt in a mix of bourbon casks and sherry casks. Then part of the whisky rests for at least six more months in casks that once held Cognac. After 14 years in total, it is bottled at 40% ABV.

It pours a rich gold. On the nose you find honey and apricot jam, with the smell of sweet cinnamon bread. A small hint of spicy liquorice sits in the back. It feels warm and welcoming before you even sip.

The palate is juicy. Mandarin in syrup comes first, then ripe poached pear. Raisins dipped in chocolate add a darker, richer layer. The finish is very smooth and rich, and it fades slowly.

This bottle has done well in competition. It won a Grand Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2023. That same year it took Gold at the International Spirits Challenge. It has also earned Silver medals in San Francisco and at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

Sip it neat to enjoy the fruit, or add a few drops of water to open it up. A single ice cube works too. Try it with crème brûlée, dried apricots, roasted nuts or a mild cheese.
