Description

This Single Malt Scotch Whisky has aged for at least 17 years. It is smooth and refined. It comes from the Glenfarclas Distillery in Ballindalloch. This is one of the few Scotch distilleries still run by one family. The Grant family has owned it since 1865. The distillery sits in Speyside. Even so, Glenfarclas calls its whisky a Highland malt, the traditional term.

The whisky is matured in sherry casks (barrels that once held sherry wine). That is the house style of Glenfarclas. It is rich and full-flavored, with sherry sweetness and good balance. It is bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof). The distillery also heats its stills with direct fire, a rare old method.

This 17-Year-Old is a lovely step up in the range. On the nose you'll find butterscotch, sherried fruit and orange peel. A gentle hint of smoke sits in the background. The palate is big and full. It brings sweet sherry, malt, spice and toasted oak. The finish is long and smooth, with a hint of spice. It nicely bridges the freshness of younger whiskies with the depth of older Glenfarclas releases. Enjoy it neat or with a splash of water.
