In a location just south of Kyoto, well-known for its abundant and high-quality water, Gekkeikan's founder, Jiemon Okura established his sake brewery in the town of Fushimi in 1637. In 1905, Gekkeikan meaning, “crown of laurel” was adopted to symbolize the company’s formal pledge to excellence. A leader in the Sake industry, Gekkeikan has pioneered research and development, resulting in them becoming one of the nations most beloved brands. Gekkeikan Haiku Premium Select is a special or, “tokubetsu” junmai. Haiku is brewed using specially prepared rice which is polished 10% more than their traditional junmai at 60%. With a slow and carefully controlled fermentation process Haiku premium select offers elegant aromas and a refined palate. The flavors offer notes of pear and apple with an herbal touch and balanced acidity. The finish is a light medium-dry. Serve this premium sake chilled.
