Description

Elijah Craig Small Batch is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon from Heaven Hill in Bardstown. It's bottled at 94 proof, or 47% ABV. Master distillers hand-pick a select number of barrels for each batch. Heaven Hill says the bourbon inside is 8 to 12 years old, though the label has no age statement.

Its grain recipe is 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley. It ages in new oak barrels with a Level 3 char. That heavy char draws out caramelized sugar, vanilla, smoke and spice. It also gives the whiskey its burnished copper color.

Lift the glass and you'll find vanilla bean, sweet fruit and fresh mint. The palate is smooth and warm, with gentle wood, spice, smoke and nutmeg. It ends long, sweet and slightly toasty.

The name honors Elijah Craig, often credited as the first to char oak barrels. That story made him known as "The Father of Bourbon." This bottle has collected plenty of medals too. It was named Best Small Batch Bourbon at the 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It won Double Gold there in 2021 and 2022. It also took Double Gold at the 2020 New York International Spirits Competition and the 2024 TAG Global Spirits Awards.

Enjoy it neat, on the rocks, or in an Old Fashioned or Manhattan. It's a great base for easy home cocktails as well. Pair it with grilled meats, dark chocolate or pecan pie.
