Made in South Africa, this is the first Single Malt Whisky from the Highveld region, produced at Drayman’s Brewery and Distillery in Silverton, Pretoria, located about 1600 meters above sea level. It is crafted from 100% unpeated pale barley malt grown in the Swartland area of the Cape Province and fermented for a full seven days, including a special lactic phase that adds extra smoothness.
The whisky is distilled twice using a traditional pot still and then aged for at least five years in 225L medium-toasted French Oak casks that previously held South African red and white wines, while the high-altitude aging further enhances its character. Only the finest 8–10% of the distilled spirit, known as the “heart cut,” is selected for maturation, ensuring top-quality flavor.
This 750ml single malt has 43% ABV (86 Proof) and is produced in small batches of around 1,200 bottles, highlighting its artisanal approach. It is very fragrant, with aromas of peeled satsumas, lime zest, rosebuds, graham cracker, sweet wine, and exotic spices. On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with rich flavors of sweet orange honey, marmalade, walnut, dark chocolate, cocoa, and spices, finishing long and warming with notes of nutmeg and marmalade.
