Description

The Dalmore Port Wood Reserve is a Highland single malt from the shores of the Cromarty Firth. It sits in Dalmore's core Principal Collection and carries no age statement.

The whisky first matures in American white oak casks that once held bourbon. It is then split in two. One part stays in American oak. The other moves into aged Tawny Port pipes from W & J Graham's in Portugal. The two are brought back together before bottling at 46.5% ABV.

Those Port pipes leave their mark from the very first sniff. You will smell sweet red berries, Seville orange and ripe plum. Sticky toffee pudding rounds it out. The palate is creamy, with nectarine, caramel and roasted chestnuts. A hint of Java coffee adds depth. The finish is long and fruity, with rich plums, sultanas, blood orange and soaked cherries.

It won Gold at the 2019 International Wine & Spirit Competition. It then took Gold at the International Spirits Challenge in both 2020 and 2022.

Enjoy it neat in a tulip glass, or add a few drops of water to open the fruit. It goes well with dark chocolate, roasted nuts or a slice of aged cheddar. Berry desserts are a natural match too. It is a lovely bottle for anyone who loves rich, fruity Scotch.
