This is a Cognac, a type of French brandy, made by Courvoisier, one of the most famous Cognac houses, founded in 1828 in Jarnac, France. It carries a V.S. (Very Special) rating, meaning the youngest spirit in the blend is aged at least two years in French oak barrels, while the full blend typically ranges from three to seven years. Produced mainly from grapes grown in the Fins Bois and Petite Champagne regions, this Cognac comes in a 750ml bottle with an alcohol content of 40% (80 proof).
It has a golden-light amber color and a lively, balanced aroma featuring fresh fruit like apple and pear, along with delicate floral notes. On the palate, it is smooth and gentle, with hints of stone fruit, vanilla, and light oak, making it very versatile. You can enjoy it neat, on the rocks, in classic cocktails like a Sidecar or French 75, or simply with mixers like ginger ale.
Courvoisier’s “Cognac in Blossom” style highlights its fruity and floral flavors, and it is historically linked to Napoleon Bonaparte, who reportedly enjoyed it and even took barrels with him to St. Helena. As an award-winning entry-level Cognac, it sits at the beginning of Courvoisier’s range, followed by VSOP and XO expressions.
