Description

Cognac Park XO Grande Champagne is a limited edition released to mark the Lunar New Year. It is made by Distillerie Tessendier in Jarnac, France. Every grape is Ugni Blanc, grown in the Grande Champagne cru of Cognac.

The wine is double distilled in Charentais copper pot stills. The young spirit spends its first 12 months in new European oak with a medium char. After that it moves into used casks. Each eau-de-vie in the blend has aged for at least ten years. It is bottled at 40% ABV.

In the glass it shows a rich amber color. You will smell dried apricot, vanilla and cedar, lifted by a little citrus zest. The palate is full and round. Toasted almond, hazelnut and dried fig sit beside a lively ginger spice, a bit like gingerbread. The finish is long, with tangy fruit and a light trace of tobacco leaf.

Sip it neat from a tulip glass and give it a few minutes to open. Cupping the bowl in your hand warms it and brings out more aroma. Add a few drops of water if you like it softer.

Serve it after dinner with dark chocolate, dried fruit or aged cheese. It also suits a quiet evening with a good cigar. If you enjoy full, layered brandy with real age behind it, this bottle is worth a look.
