Chieftain's Fettercairn 19 Year Scotch Whiskey (750Ml)

Description

This is a single malt from the Fettercairn distillery in Scotland's eastern Highlands. It was bottled by Ian Macleod for its Chieftain's range. Chieftain's picks single casks from other distilleries and bottles them independently. This one spent 19 years in wood before it was bottled.

The US releases we know of each came from one sherry cask. Both were bottled at full cask strength, 57.4% ABV. Vintages from 1996 and 1997 have both been sold. Sherry casks once held fortified wine from Spain. They leave rich, dark flavors behind in the whisky.

Sweet Oloroso sherry and dried fruit rise from the glass. On the palate, nutty sherry takes over, with walnut and almond. The texture is full and warming at this strength. The finish is long, with dried apricot, cherry and more nuts.

Take your first sip neat so you feel its full power. Then add water slowly, a drop or two at a time. The fruit opens up as the strength settles. It is a rare find for anyone who loves sherried Highland malts.
