Description

Bushmills 16 Year Old is a single malt Irish whiskey from the Old Bushmills Distillery in Northern Ireland. The distillery traces its roots to a licence granted in 1608. The spirit is triple distilled. It then spends about 15 years in Oloroso sherry and bourbon-seasoned casks. A final nine months or so in port wine pipes adds a deep amber color and extra richness.

The aroma is rich and inviting, with dried citrus, toffee and caramel. On the palate, you get dried figs, toasted nuts and vanilla bean. The finish is long and luxurious. Orange marmalade and chocolate stay with you after each sip.

This whiskey has a shelf of recent medals. It won Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2024. The American Spirits Council of Tasters (ASCOT) gave it Gold in 2023. It placed third at the 2023 International Whisky Competition. In 2022 it took Gold at the International Spirits Challenge and the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

Bushmills suggests pouring it neat or over a small cube of ice. Take your time, since the flavors build slowly in the glass. Dark chocolate, aged cheese and roasted nuts make good companions. It is a fine bottle for a special night or a thoughtful gift.
