Bulleit 95 Rye is a straight American rye whiskey named for its grain recipe. The 95 stands for its mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. Bulleit first released it in 2011. Back then, very few American ryes used that much rye. It is distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, to Bulleit's own specifications.

In the glass, it shows a pale amber color. It is bottled at 45% ABV, which is 90 proof. Bulleit describes the nose as smooth and sweet, with maple and oak. You may also pick up light toffee and a little dried fruit.

The first sip is smooth, and that sweet maple and oak comes right back. Many tasters also find vanilla and gentle rye spice. The high rye content shows most at the end. The finish is smooth and spicy, so it never feels flat.

This is a whiskey you can sip or stir. Bulleit calls it a great pick for the classics, and the Rye Manhattan is the drink it features. It also shines in an Old Fashioned or a Sazerac. Even if you usually buy ready-made cocktails, this bottle makes mixing your own easy.
