Description

Breckenridge PX Cask Finish starts as Breckenridge Bourbon, a high-rye bourbon made in the Colorado Rockies. Founder Bryan Nolt has a soft spot for sherry and for Scotch finished in sherry wood. So the team gave their bourbon extra time in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Those barrels come from an old solera in Andalusia, Spain.

The award-winning distillery is known for aging its spirit at high altitude. Thick, sweet PX wine soaks into the wood over many years. That sweetness softens the rye spice of the bourbon. The finished whiskey is bottled at 90 proof.

On the nose you get fig compote and a touch of licorice. The palate brings orange marmalade and golden raisin from the sherry wood. Underneath sit the sweet oak and vanilla of the base bourbon. It ends dry, with a pinch of white pepper.

This bottle won Double Gold at the 2022 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Enjoy it neat or on a single big cube. A rich, fruity Old Fashioned is another good use for it.

For food, try it with a fig tart, blue cheese or a dark chocolate dessert. Roasted meats and aged cheese work well too. If you like sweet sherry and spicy bourbon, this Colorado whiskey brings both into one glass.
