Branson Phantom VS is a smooth cognac from the Branson line backed by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Raymond Ragnaud, a fifth-generation family house, blends it. The grapes are Ugni Blanc from the Borderies and Fins Bois crus of Cognac, France.
As a VS, it's aged a minimum of two to three years. Some of its eaux-de-vie are more than four years old. The casks are French oak, mostly from the Allier, Limousin and Tronçais forests. It's bottled at 40% ABV and pours a light golden amber.
Raise the glass and you'll smell vanilla and ripe fruit. On the palate you get oak, crisp apple and a touch of light citrus. It feels balanced and easy, never sharp. The finish is soft and warming, with an elegant close.
This VS has a steady medal record. It won Silver at the Bartender Spirits Awards in 2021, 2022 and 2023. It also took Silver at the 2023 London Spirits Awards. Tastings.com gave it a Gold Medal with 91 points.
Sip it neat or on the rocks after dinner. It also works well in a Sidecar or topped with ginger ale. Serve it with dark chocolate, roasted nuts or aged cheese. If you want an easygoing cognac for sipping and mixing, keep this one close.
