Bacardí Reserva Ocho Rye Cask Finish takes the brand's flagship aged rum in a new direction. The rum spends 8 to 12 years in American oak. Then it rests for two final months in rye whiskey casks.

This bottle was the second release in Bacardí's limited Cask Finish Series. It followed the Sherry Cask Finish. It is bottled at 45% ABV, a little stronger than the classic Ocho.

In the glass you will see a deep mahogany color. The nose smells like spiced gingerbread and maple sugar, with molasses underneath. On your tongue the rye spice arrives first. Vanilla, brown sugar and caramel follow, with a light touch of chocolate and earthy oak.

The finish is warm and balanced between fruit and wood. It is a fun way to see how a whiskey cask can shape a Caribbean rum.

Sip it neat or on the rocks to enjoy the texture. You can also stir it into an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan-style drink. Try it with smoked brisket, aged cheddar or pecan pie.
