Austin Hope knows a little thing or two about wine. For over 30 years, they’ve been making quality reds all within the California Central Coast. Syrah, Merlot, Mourvedre, Grenache, and (of course) Cabernet Sauvignon? They do them all.
Its winery can be found in Paso Robles, where the family still runs it to this day. And, tothis day, they hand sort grapes and ferment them in small lots. Temperature is controlled to the T, and certain techniques, like extended maceration and gentle extraction, are also kept up to ensure control of the wine quality.
This bottle you see here is their 2016. With this, you get prominent notes of blackberry and plum. A light touch of vanilla, oak, and spice makes it more balanced. On the nose, it greets you with ripe dark fruits, warm vanilla, oak, and subtle spice.
While not a pricey bottle, it delivers a full-bodied and rich sip. It’s an easy recommendation for dinner dates when roasted meats and cheeses are on the menu.
