Argonaut Saloon Strength California Brandy (750Ml)

Description

Argonaut Saloon Strength is a California brandy built with bartenders in mind. It is bottled at 91 proof, a bit stronger than most brandies. That extra strength helps it stand up in a cocktail. Argonaut comes from the Gallo family of wineries.

The name looks back to the California Gold Rush. "Argonauts" was the nickname for the fortune seekers who flooded the state. After a long day, many of them ended up in a saloon.

The blend joins brandy from pot stills with brandy from Coffey column stills. It uses several grape varieties, including Chardonnay. Some of the brandy in it has spent about two decades in oak.

Lift the glass and you get fresh apple and pear, with a light touch of peach. On the palate, toasted oak meets apricot jam, caramel and rich baking spice. The finish is warm, with dried fruit and a hint of dark chocolate.

Shake it into a Sidecar or stir a brandy Old Fashioned. It is also good neat or over a big ice cube. Serve it with roasted nuts, aged gouda or an apple tart.
