Appleton Estate 15 Year Old Black River Casks is a rich Jamaican rum from the Nassau Valley. Appleton Estate has made rum there since 1749. Master Blender Joy Spence built this blend from pot still and column still rums. Every rum in it is aged at least 15 years. The tropical heat of Jamaica helps the oak do its work faster.

The name comes from the Black River. Its limestone-filtered water is used to make every Appleton Estate rum. No flavors are added.

Pour a glass and toasted almond and delicate hazelnut greet you first. The palate is full of orange peel, rich vanilla and roasted coffee. Molasses, gentle spice and a soft, fruity oak follow. The finish is creamy and lingers well. It is bottled at 43% ABV.

You can savor it neat or over a single large cube. It also makes a lovely Rum Old Fashioned. Try it with dark chocolate, grilled pineapple or roasted nuts. If you like lighter or sweeter rums, this one may feel quite deep.
