The Dalmore 14 Year Old is a Highland single malt made for drinkers in the United States. It joined The Dalmore Principal Collection in 2022. Master Whisky Maker Gregg Glass built it around one special cask. It was the first Dalmore to spend time in rare Pedro Ximénez casks from González Byass in Spain. The bottle is only sold in the US, so it is a fun find for fans of the distillery. It also sits neatly between the younger 12 and the older releases in the range.

The whisky starts its life in American white oak casks that once held bourbon. That stage gives it soft vanilla, toffee and honey. Part of the spirit then moves into casks that held sweet Pedro Ximénez sherry. After about two years, the two parts are brought back together. The result keeps the house style of chocolate and orange, with a deeper layer of dark fruit.

Lift the glass and you get warm honey and dates first. Seville orange zest follows, along with plump raisins and a pinch of allspice. It smells a bit like a well-made fruitcake, rich but never sticky. Give it a minute and the orange grows brighter.

The first sip is rich and sweet. Figs and dates lead the way. Toasted hazelnuts add a nutty edge, and roasted coffee keeps the sweetness in check. A ribbon of maple syrup ties it all together. The texture feels round and full without being heavy. Each flavor has room to speak, and none of them shouts over the others. Take a second sip and you may notice a little chocolate orange in the middle.

The finish takes its time. Dark fruit lingers, then liquorice and marmalade appear. It closes on a deep note of cocoa. Bottled at 43.8% ABV, it has enough strength to carry all those flavors without any burn. That slightly higher strength also gives the whisky a fuller feel on your tongue. It is a finish worth waiting for, so do not rush to the next pour.

Critics liked it from the start. The Ultimate Spirits Challenge gave it 94 points at launch. Earlier versions of this page also mention recognition in San Francisco, at the World Spirits Competition, and from the International Spirits Challenge.

Pour it neat into a tulip glass and let it breathe for a few minutes. A drop or two of water brings out more of the fruit. Food makes it shine as well. Try it with dark chocolate truffles, aged cheese, roast lamb or a slice of pecan pie. If you want a cocktail, it makes a rich, fruity Old Fashioned.

If you enjoy sherried Scotch with plenty of fruit and cocoa, this one belongs on your shelf. It is also a friendly step up for newer drinkers exploring single malt whisky. The sweet, balanced profile makes it an easy bottle to share with friends.
