Description

Cabo Wabo was founded by rock singer Sammy Hagar in 1996. He wanted a tequila that captured the easygoing spirit of Cabo San Lucas. Today the brand is part of the Campari Group.

This añejo is made from 100% blue Weber agave. The piñas are cut into quarters and cooked in stainless steel autoclaves. During distillation, Cabo Wabo takes a thicker cut, so more raw agave character comes through. The tequila then rests for at least 12 months in American oak barrels.

It pours a warm amber colour. A whiff of vanilla rises first, with soft floral notes and a little cinnamon. The palate feels soft, with honey and cooked agave up front. Caramel and gentle spice fill in the middle, with a hint of oak and earth. The finish ends on a slight peppery prickle.

Wine Enthusiast scored it 94 points, a strong result for an everyday añejo.

Cabo Wabo says it is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks, though it mixes well too. Serve it alongside grilled ribeye, mole, aged Gouda or a slice of pecan pie.
