Padre Azul Tequila was founded by HP Eder and Adriana Alvarez Maxemin in 2016. While attending university in Heidelberg, Germany, the pair met, fell in love and began to build a life together. Eder, from the Austrian Alps and Maxemin, from Jalisco, Mexico each experienced a culture shock which catapulted them into a blend of their backgrounds with a mexican-crafted tequila inspired by Austria.
Eder held a passion for distillation prior to this meeting of two worlds, and had inherited this passion from his father and his production of high-quality Vogelbeerschnaps, a traditional Austrian spirit made out of rowan berries. Just as he experienced the best Mezcal crafting of spirits with a recipe that had been passed down for generations, he witnessed the same passion and time-honored tradition in authentic Mexican tequila. Wanting to bring a true representation of this spirit to Europe, Eder aided Adriana and her father/his father-in-law set out to craft their own premium tequila, thus beginning Padre Azul.
Padre Azul Xiaman Artesanal Mezcal is crafted with strict adherence to specific traditional rules. Xiamen Mezcal is crafted using a blend of roasted Tepextate and Espadín all harvested during a full moon. The Tepextate provides a complexity which balances with the rich aromas of the matured Espadín. Designed by master artist Maurilio Rentería and crafted by a group of Wixárica artisans, each bottle takes over thirteen hours to create as it is hand-painted and labeled and topped with a jaguar head-shaped stopper that has been covered in chaquira beads.
