The Sazerac tale starts with transatlantic trade! A French cognac bearing the Sazerac name was shipped into New Orleans and became a favorite at the Sazerac Coffee House. Local bartenders adapted and mixed, swapping and adding ingredients until the cocktail we now call the Sazerac emerged.
Over time, the name moved from a specific imported cognac to the drink and then to the business side that grew into the Sazerac Company. As spirits production shifted and American whiskey matured as its own tradition, Sazerac embraced rye whiskey as the natural American heart of the cocktail. The modern Sazerac Rye brand channels that, all while respecting the drink's French-import origin and centering around American rye's character.
This is a core expression that channels classic New Orleans spice and cocktail clarity. You get clean rye heat up front, citrus, and clove midpalate - that and a brisk, dry finish that makes it ideal for Sazeracs and other stirred classics.
An age-stated reserve release that emphasizes deeper oak and time-driven complexity. Extended maturation brings dark fruit, toasted oak, and leather alongside rye spice; best enjoyed neat or in minimal cocktails that let age speak.
A full‑strength, 100 proof straight rye intended to deliver a bit more presence and punch than the core release. Bottled at a higher proof to preserve fuller mouthfeel and bolder spice. Expect amplified pepper, toasted grain, and citrus zest with a firmer backbone that holds up in cocktails or neat tasting; it's positioned as a value-packed, more assertive take on the Sazerac profile.
Sazerac Rye won Silver at the International Wine & Spirits Competition twice in 2025 and 2024.
In 2024, Gold awards were received from the Global Whiskey Challenge and Whiskies of the World. Jim Murray's Whisky Bible gave it a rating of 94.5.
If you like a whiskey with structure, history, and a direct tie to cocktail tradition, Sazerac is a perfect fit. It's also for cocktail lovers who want a reliable rye that makes classic drinks like the Sazerac and Old Fashioned sing.
