Murray Hill Club is a blended bourbon with a story that goes back to 1892. That year, Joseph Magnus first brought the whiskey to market. It became one of the most respected pours of the years before Prohibition. Old ads called it absolutely “pure” and the pick of “gentlemen in society and club circles.” Jos. A. Magnus & Co. revived the brand in 2016 from its home in Washington, D.C.

Master Blender Nancy Fraley built the modern recipe. She marries 18- and 11-year-old bourbon with a small share of 9-year-old light whiskey. Her background in brandy shows in the method. The blend is brought down to strength slowly, then bottled at 103 proof.

Pour a glass and toasty vanilla and a little char greet you first. The Whiskey Wash also found caramel popcorn and pine cones on the nose. Butterscotch, toffee and honey follow on the palate, wrapped in warm autumn baking spice. A pinch of black pepper keeps all that sweetness in check. The finish stays soft and toasted, with layers of spiced dried fruit.

The medal shelf keeps growing, too. It took a Double Gold at the 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Gold there in 2025. It has also won Silver at the 2025 American Distilling Institute judging and the 2021 New York International Spirits Competition.

Try it neat first, so you can follow how the blend opens up. One large ice cube works well if you like it cooler. For a cocktail, keep things simple with a classic Old Fashioned. Grilled steak, roasted pecans or a square of dark chocolate make easy partners.
