Description

Marca Negra Espadín is an artisanal mezcal from Oaxaca, made from 100% Espadín agave. It is produced in small batches the old way. The agave is harvested by hand and roasted in earthen pits. It is then crushed, fermented and distilled twice in copper pot stills. Each batch is bottled strong, so the exact strength can move a little from one batch to the next.

Pour a glass and the smoke comes first, wrapped around very ripe fruit. It reminds you of a fruitwood fire. Bright citrus and sweet agave nectar sit just underneath.

The first sip is rich and creamy, with a gentle sweetness. A lemony zing cuts through it. Light pepper and an earthy, clay-like note keep it grounded. For such a strong spirit, it feels smooth and silky. The finish is clean, with one last touch of citrus.
