Trying different cocktails is fun, but what’s even more exciting is preparing something you haven’t tried yet. So if you were looking for some new cocktail recipes, here are a few ones you should try this weekend.
Chavela
Chavela is a beer-based cocktail, which becomes extra spicy when tequila is added to it. To prepare this cocktail, you will require:
- Lemon wedge
- Kosher salt
- Tomato juice – 3 ounces
- Hot sauce – 6 dashes
- Light-bodied beer – 1 bottle (Mexican beer would be best)
- Tequila – 1.5 ounces
When you have all the mentioned ingredients, grab a glass and rub the rim of the glass with the lemon wedge. Keep the lemon wedge aside; don’t throw it away just yet. Pour some salt on a plate and use it to coat the rim of the glass. Fill the glass with beer, tomato juice, hot sauce, and ice, and then add the lemon wedge to the mixture. Top the cocktail with Tequila, and you are ready to go.
Watermelon Agua Fresca
This amazing drink is well suited for the individuals who are looking to avoid alcohol. To prepare the drink, you’ll need:
- Watermelon – 4 cups (seeded, and cubed)
- Water – ½ cup
- White sugar – ½ cup
- Lime – 4 slices
- Fresh mint leaves
- Ice
Make a puree of the watermelon cubes, and add some water into it. Stir well until the mixture becomes smooth. Add sugar to the mixture and keep it aside. Use a knife to cut the lime slices into exact half pieces, and place one of the halves into a glass. Add three mint leaves into the glass, and use a cocktail muddler to crush them. Add ice to the glass, and pour in the watermelon mix to it.
Paloma
Paloma cocktail is sweet and tart, and is one of the most popular drinks in Mexico. To make some Paloma, you will require:
- Tequila – 2 ounces
- Lime juice – ½ ounce
- Salt
- Grapefruit soda
Use a tall glass to make a mixture of Tequila, salt, and lime juice. Add ice to the glass, followed by grapefruit soda, and stir the mixture well. You can also use a lemon-lime soda with a bit of grapefruit juice for better taste.
Champurrado
Champurrados is a thick Mexican hot chocolate based cocktail, which is basically recommended to people who do not love Margaritas that much. Ingredients used in this cocktail are:
- Masa Harina – ⅓ cup
- Warm water – 2 cups
- Milk – 2 cups
- Mexican chocolate – 3 ounces (finely chopped)
- Piloncillo – 3 ounces
- Salt – ⅛ teaspoon
- Star anise pods – 2
- Cinnamon sticks – 2
Add Masa Harina and water in a saucepan, put it over low heat, and stir in milk, chocolate, and pilloncillo into it. Now add star anise pods and cinnamon sticks into the mixture and cook the mixture for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the chocolate completely melts. When the piloncillo dissolves and the mixture thickens, add some more warm water to smoothen up its consistency, and your cocktail is ready.
