Courvoisier VSOP is a cognac, meaning that it is a type of brandy that is made in the town of Cognac, France. Production of cognac brandies is regulated by BNIC, a French government institute, which mandates that brandies bearing the name ‘cognac’ should be manufactured only in Cognac town and should adhere to the production rules set by BNIC. According to the regulations;

  • The white wine used to make cognac brandy should be fermented and it should then be double distilled.
  • The drink should be aged only in Limousin oak barrels for at least two years.

Most of the cognacs are blends and the label description of the drink shows the age of the youngest content in the blend. Courvoisier VSOP is a VSOP cognac, meaning that the drink is aged for more than five years. VS means that the drink is aged for more than two years, and XO means the drink is aged for over six years.

Appearance And Color The drink has a deep amber copper color.

Nose – This cognac smells of dried fruits and butter cream.

Body – It has a soft dry medium body.

Courvoisier VSOP cognac makes use of single barrel aging. This is the most common type of aging method, where the drink is aged in barrels of oak or wood. Single barrel aged brandies usually have brown or golden color, and the barrel gives the color and aroma to the drink. Generally, oak barrels are used to age spirits like brandy. However, Limousin oak is used to age cognac, which is mostly found in Northeast areas of France.
