Arran began their first distillery in Lochranza, a village on the Isle of Arran, Scotland, nearly 30 years ago. Close to Loch na Davie, the location was ideal for a unique source of fresh water for distilling. Later, in 2019 they opened their second distillery at Lagg, a village on the southern part of the island. Here, they developed their distinct style of peated single malt and continued to grow their scotch-making craft. From their brand-new packaging style 2020 release of their series of wine cask finishes comes Arran Single Malt Port Cask Finish. After their initial maturation in oak casks for 8 years, this single malt was finished in hand selected port wine casks. This charming meeting of the classic Portuguese fortified wine and the bright Scottish Arran character is a perfect partnership. On the nose is baked apples and cinnamon, leading into a rich palate ripe with vanilla spice, citrus, dried fruits, roasted nuts and honey notes. The finish is also sweet with complementary notes of orange peel, cocoa, dark cherries and spice. An ideal after-dinner dram, this Arran Single malt pairs well with a delicious selection of cheeses such as Roquefort, Cashel Blue, French Bleu d’Auvergne, or Gorgonzola.
