How is rose wine made?
Rosé is a type of wine crafted using the skin of grape varieties for its signature light pink blush coloration. Rosé is primarily produced using three methods: skin contact, saignée and blending. For the Skin Contact method, black-skinned grapes are crushed and left for up to almost a full day. After, the grapes are pressed and the skins are filtered out. For the Saignée method, the pink juice from the initial must of a red wine is removed in order to impart more intense flavor and tannin. The removed juice is then fermented separately to craft a rose. The third, less common way rose can be made is through blending, using red and white wine. This practice is rarely used, and is even actively discouraged in France.
